Privacy
Your account
You sign in with X or Google. We receive your name, profile picture, username (from X) and email address from that provider. Your email is never shown publicly.
What you publish
Annotations, comments, votes and follows are public, together with your name and handle. Annotations you post anonymously don’t show your name or handle publicly; we still keep who wrote them so we can handle abuse and fair-use claims.
The Chrome extension
The extension reads a page only after you open Annotated on it or allow it on that site, and only to build the clip you’re making: the page’s title and source details, the text you selected, and the playback position of its video or audio. Drafts stay in your browser until you publish. If you open the Takes tab, the page’s address is sent to us to look up what others have published about it; we don’t store it or tie it to your account.
Claims
If you file a fair-use claim, we keep your name, email and statement to review it and to send you the decision. The status page shows the decision but never your email.
What we don’t do
We don’t sell your data, show ads, or use your data for anything other than running Annotated.
Deleting your account
Ask us to delete your account and we’ll remove it along with everything you’ve published.
